Established in 1955 the Higashi Fukuoka Juku Junior High School and Higashi Fukuoka Senior High School stand proudly in Hakata. This institution wasn’t always located here. Its journey began much earlier in 1945 as the Fukuoka Japanese Language Institute.

The school’s founding was deeply rooted in the post-war era. The founder Tokuyama Tsuneyoshi envisioned education as a powerful tool for Japan’s rebuilding. He believed in fostering talented individuals who are committed and determined. His vision shaped the school’s motto “Strive for Success Be Ingenious”.

The Higashi Fukuoka Juku Junior High School and Higashi Fukuoka Senior High School thrived. It moved to its current location in 1964. A new chapter started in 1999. The school became a combined junior and senior high school. A special advanced course was also established.

Over the years the school has undergone many changes. A new school building was completed in 2010. It celebrated its 65th anniversary and 55th anniversary respectively. The sports facilities were also renovated including a gymnasium. This large-scale building is remarkable for its use of Fukuoka Dome Green technology. This reduces surface temperatures. The school’s athletic teams excelled. The soccer team particularly made a name for itself. They won many championships. The school even appeared in the music video for AKB48’s “Aitakatta” and the movie “Ooka Miya and Kurooji”.

In 2023 the school announced exciting plans. The Higashi Fukuoka Gakuen Vision NEXT HIGASHI 2030 was unveiled. It includes co-education beginning in 2025. The school aims to cultivate global citizens. The vision includes a focus on practical education and global learning. The school is looking towards a future where students thrive both domestically and internationally. This will undoubtedly lead to more improvements and changes. The Higashi Fukuoka Juku Junior High School and Higashi Fukuoka Senior High School look ahead to the future. The school’s legacy of excellence will continue for years to come.
