Nestled in Shanghai’s Yangpu District is Yangpu Station. This isn’t your typical bustling passenger station. Yangpu Station is a vital freight hub. It marks the end of the He-Yang Railway line. The station is managed by the Shanghai Railway Bureau’s Nanxiang direct station. It handles container shipping and specialized freight transport.

Yangpu Station’s story began in 1958. Construction finished in 1960. It started trial operations in March and officially opened in July of the same year. It was originally called Yangshupu Station. The name changed to Yangpu Station in October 1963. The station’s evolution mirrors Shanghai’s growth as a major economic center.

In November 1993, Yangpu Station embraced container transport. This marked a significant step in modernizing its operations. On July 22, 1998, the station partnered with the Shanghai Port Container Development Company. Together they created the Yangpu Port Station. This rail-port link aimed to boost port-rail transport efficiency. This development underscored Yangpu Station’s growing importance in regional logistics. This led to its upgrade to a first-class station in 1999.

In June 2013, the Shanghai Customs station at Yangpu Station was upgraded. It became the Shanghai Station Customs. This gave it responsibility for international freight transport supervision at the station. The station’s reach extended beyond national borders.

Yangpu Station was once directly under the Shanghai Railway Bureau. In 1999, it merged with the Hejiabang direct station. This expanded its management to include Hejiabang, Jiangwan, and Zhenxing stations. In June 2005, Yangpu direct station merged with Beizhan direct station. In 2010, Beizhan direct station merged into Nanxiang direct station. Yangpu Station has remained under Nanxiang’s management ever since.

Yangpu Station boasts five arrival and departure lines. The freight yard is located at 4041 Zhoujiazui Road. It’s operated by China Railway Container Transport. The yard covers a vast 261,800 square meters. It has twelve operational lines and one coal-water line. There are 457 cargo spaces. The Shanghai Station Customs is also based here. The station also has a dedicated line to the Shanghai Electric Factory. Yangpu Station continues to evolve as a crucial link in Shanghai’s logistics network.
