“Another temple?” someone sighs softly behind you. Perhaps they assume all temples are alike. But Ming Chiao Temple offers a unique story. It is etched in the very stones around you. This Buddhist temple is more than just a place of worship.

Ming Chiao Temple stands as a testament to Hiroshima’s enduring spirit. It reflects the city’s capacity for renewal. The temple’s history is intertwined with the region’s cultural and religious landscape. Buddhist temples dot Japan. Each one has unique characteristics and stories.

Saijo Inari Temple is one of the three major Inari temples in Japan. It exemplifies this uniqueness. Its official name is Saijo Inari-san Myokyoji Temple. It uniquely blends Shinto and Buddhist religious forms. This happened after edicts demanded their separation. Even though it is a temple, Kyu-Honden has a shrine architecture style.

The principal image is Saijoi Kyo-o Daibosatsu. People also know it as Inari Daimyojin. Legend says priest Ho-on Daishi had a vision of Saijoi Kyo-o Daibosatsu at Hachijoiwa Rock. If you climb the trail from Kyu-Honden’s west side, you will see Hachijoiwa Rock. It is a sacred place. The rock’s upper part is about eight tatami mats in size. From here, you can see the ruins of Bitchu Takamatsu Castle.

The main shrine was completed in 1979. It took five years to build. Honden enshrines Saijo Sama. This construction commemorated the temple’s 1200-year anniversary. The former main shrine was then moved to the back.

Kyu-Honden was rebuilt in 1741. It has a medieval shrine style. There are 77 small shrines around the main shrine. Various gods are enshrined there. Enno Massha allows prayers for relationship dissolution and matchmaking. The Niomon gate has rare stone architecture. It adopts the India Hall of Fame style. This design choice resulted from a past forest fire.

Saijo Inari attracts many visitors who seek blessings. They wish for family safety and business prosperity. The temple has a rich history of over 1200 years. It protects the Lotus Sutra and Buddhist teachings. Saijo Inari is known for both Shinto and Buddhist elements. It is a syncretistic temple. People can pray for dissolving relationships and finding partners.

Climbing to Hachijoiwa Rock offers views of Bitchu Takamatsu Castle ruins. As you explore Ming Chiao Temple, remember its deep roots. The temple is a blend of traditions. It is a testament to faith. Take a moment to appreciate the serenity. Consider the stories held within its walls.
