“What stories could these walls tell?” I wonder. Here stands the 文博楼 in Shanghai. It is more than just a building. It is a repository of history. It is a place where past and present converge.
The 文博楼 is located on the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. You will find it south of the Ziqi Donglai Gate. It sits at the start of Xuanhuai Avenue. This five-story building spans approximately 30000 square meters. It serves as the main office space for the Archives and Museums Management Center. The Jiao Da Museum the校史 Museum and the Archives are all housed here.
The design philosophy of 文博楼 embraces two core concepts. These are “drinking water to remember the source” and “dialogue between time and space”. The building intertwines historical elements with modern aesthetics. The subtle changes in the ground’s curved texture echo the rippling Tianpeng pattern above. This conveys the idea of unity between heaven and earth. The design seeks to express harmony between top and bottom. It blends classic elegance with the unique characteristics of Jiao Tong University. The 文博楼 showcases the university’s past, present and future.
The 文博楼 together with the Ziqi Donglai Gate and the statue of Xuanhuai. They create the most solemn and historically rich area on campus. The building stands tall between heaven and earth. From the faint morning light to the gathering dusk. From the drifting white clouds to the twinkling stars. Every moment casts unique shadows that please the eye.
In recent times the Archives and Museums Management Center launched a photography contest. This was themed around the 文博楼. Campus photography enthusiasts actively participated. Many submitted their work. From these submissions 20 representative pieces were selected. They show the artistic beauty of this place.
The 文博楼 also received a sketch from Ying Yuqing. She is an alumna of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute. This artwork like every photo submitted embodies deep affection. It fills us with joy and emotion.
Strolling through the campus. Wandering along the banks of the Wenbo River. We experience the universe. We feel the passage of time. We witness flowers bloom and fade. We appreciate the beauty within.
Every experience is a prelude. As the year draws to a close. Let us look forward to the beauty of 2021 together. The Archives and Museums Management Center is located at 1954 Huashan Road Shanghai.
