Hiroshima City Motomachi High School was founded in 1988. This makes it the last high school established in Hiroshima Prefecture during the Showa era. In 1986, Hiroshima Prefecture and Hiroshima City agreed to build a new municipal high school in Asakita Ward. Construction started in October that year. By April 1987, the school had established a preparatory office.
The name Hiroshima City Motomachi High School was officially decided in September 1987. The Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education approved its establishment the following month. The school’s preparatory office opened in January 1988 at Hiroshima Municipal Itsukaichi Junior High School. The opening ceremony took place in April 1988. In 2001, Hiroshima City Motomachi High School established an international science course. However, recruitment for this course stopped in 2012.
The school’s motto is advancement, friendship and moderation. It offers a full-day curriculum with a credit system. Students follow a three-term academic year. The school has a general course. The international science course is no longer recruiting students.
