Did you know that the students of Koga Municipal Aoyagi Elementary School once walked 110 kilometers? In 2012 the 48 sixth-graders completed the “My Road Song Caravan 2012”.

Here we are at the Koga Municipal Aoyagi Elementary School. It is more than just a place of learning. It is a place where students learn teamwork.

Let’s step back to that incredible journey. The students walked about 110 kilometers. They safely completed their journey. Before their goal at Aoyagi Elementary School they stopped at Koga City Hall.

Protectors and staff greeted them. A mini-concert welcomed them in the City Hall. Their energetic and beautiful singing voices moved everyone. The children did not forget the importance of teamwork. They did not forget gratitude to those who supported them.

Since 2001 Aoyagi Elementary School has had a tradition. Each year the sixth graders plan a major project using their comprehensive study time. In 2012 they challenged a four-night five-day course. It was from October 22nd to 26th. They went to and from the Wakamatsu Ward of Kitakyushu City.

During the course they interacted with other elementary schools. These included Genkai East Elementary School and Orokuyama Elementary School. They also visited Ashiya East Elementary School and Haruto Elementary School. The students opened mini concerts in various places. They sang with smiles and emotion. They cleaned the toilets at elementary schools. They also cleaned at facilities for the elderly.

Mr. Yasuoka the principal spoke. He said that the children understood the importance of cooperation. They achieved the task. He said it was a very valuable experience. Koga Municipal Aoyagi Elementary School provides valuable experiences.
