The school’s history stretches back to 1947. At that time, it started by borrowing space. They used the buildings of Prefectural West Fukuoka High School. That high school is now Fukuoka Shuyukan High School.

In 1949, the school got its own classrooms. Twelve new rooms arose on the west side. This marked a move to the school’s current location. More buildings followed. In 1950, six classrooms and a school gate appeared. The school even created its flag.

Music filled the air in 1951. A combined music room and library opened. Years later, in 1955, the school song debuted. Eiichi Matsuo wrote the lyrics. Yuuzo Mori composed the music. Matsuo also served as the first PTA chairman.

Fukuoka Municipal West Fukuoka Junior High School grew. It branched out. In 1961, Jonan Junior High School split off. In 1968, Mutsuro Junior High School also became separate. New classrooms and a gymnasium arrived in 1970.

The school adapted over time. In 1972, it began a 30-student class system. They also added special classes for students with intellectual disabilities. Irori Junior High School was founded in 1973. A pool was built at Fukuoka Municipal West Fukuoka Junior High School.

More changes came. In 1976, Harukita Junior High School opened. In 1979, Tagiru Junior High School’s creation shifted students. Those in the Tsutsui complex transferred. Further separation occurred in 1981. Tsutsui Junior High School’s establishment moved more students. New facilities appeared in 1992. A new lecture hall, gymnasium, and pool were built.

The school motto emphasizes key values. They are: knowledge, courtesy, and health. Fukuoka Municipal West Fukuoka Junior High School promotes good habits. These include a good smile, a good greeting, and a good attitude.
