“Can you imagine a school with a history as rich as the hills surrounding it?” Right here, in front of us, stands the Hiroshima City Higashi Toji Elementary School. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of growth, resilience, and community spirit. The Higashi Toji Elementary School opened its doors in April 1979. This was a time of booming development in Hiroshima’s Higashi Ward. The population was increasing rapidly. Schools like the nearby Habu Elementary School were overflowing with students. To ease the pressure, Higashi Toji Elementary School was built as a separate entity. Imagine the excitement and anticipation on that first day. 858 students, 22 classes, all ready to embark on a new educational journey. Throughout the years, the Higashi Toji Elementary School has seen its fair share of milestones. In 1981, the school adopted its own unique song, composed by Masataka Hamamoto with lyrics by Ayanobu Nagai. That same year, the school completed its athletic field. Can you picture the joy and laughter of children playing freely on this field? In 1989, the school was recognized for its excellence in promoting “good teeth”. It received a commendation for its efforts in dental hygiene. Fast forward to 2001, the school grounds expanded to include two new areas: Nakayamadai and Sei-fudai. The Higashi Toji Elementary School is not just a place of learning. It’s a living testament to the enduring spirit of this community.
