“Look at this old schoolyard. Can you imagine the laughter and games that echoed here?” We stand before the silent grounds of the Higashihiroshima Shiritsu Higashi Shiwa Shogakko, a place once teeming with the energy of young minds. Founded in 1897, the Higashihiroshima Shiritsu Higashi Shiwa Shogakko has been a cornerstone of this community, witnessing generations pass through its halls. Sadly, the school closed its doors in March 2022, merging with Nishi Shiwa Elementary School to form the new Shiwa Junior High School. But the spirit of learning and camaraderie that defined Higashihiroshima Shiritsu Higashi Shiwa Shogakko lives on. The school prided itself on cultivating self-reliance and a love for nature in its students. It’s easy to picture children planting trees, tending to their little garden plots, their laughter mingling with the chirping of birds. Although the halls of Higashihiroshima Shiritsu Higashi Shiwa Shogakko are quiet now, they whisper tales of laughter, friendship, and the enduring power of education.
