Hayata Elementary School sits in the northeastern part of Hiroshima City. It is near Mt. Ushita. Mt. Ushita rises about 260 meters. The mountain broadens southwest like a horse’s hoof.
In the area called Ushita Hayata in Hiroshima City’s eastern district the sunlight hits well. Rice grew well there. Hiroshima has few flat areas. Mountain slopes have steep residential areas. Mt. Ushita is no exception. The road winds around and around. At the far end stands Hiroshima City Hayata Elementary School.

After World War II Hiroshima rebuilt quickly. In 1949 it became a City of Peace. It emphasizes nuclear disarmament. The Peace Memorial Museum and annual ceremonies promote peace. Today Hiroshima blends history and modernity. Hiroshima Castle showcases samurai heritage. Shukkeien Garden dates back to 1620. Miyajima Island has a famous torii gate.
