New, tranquil residential areas sprung up, creating a need for a new school. Atagohama Elementary was born from this change. It split off from Muchima Elementary, becoming a beacon of education in this freshly developed part of the city. Today, Atagohama Elementary bustles with the energy of over 420 students. They learn and grow within its walls, continuing a legacy started over two decades ago. The school is known for its emphasis on multicultural education. Its sister school partnership with Rangeview Intermediate School in New Zealand reflects this global perspective. It helps foster a spirit of international understanding. During its 20th-anniversary celebrations, students wrote messages on wind boats, expressing their dreams. One child’s wish, to “eat a large steak,” miraculously reached a cattle-farming family in Oita Prefecture. They, touched by the simple desire, gifted the school a whopping 500 grams of beef.
