The history of Hachihonmatsu Junior High School is interesting. It began in 1967. The school was formed by merging Kawaue Junior High School and Miva Junior High School. At that time the current school building was not yet complete. Classes were held at the Kawaue and Miva locations.

In 1968 the main school building was completed. It was a three-story building with 15 classrooms. A dedication ceremony was held. Later in 1970 a gymnasium was added.

A significant change occurred in 1974. Higashi Hiroshima City was established. Consequently the school’s name changed to Higashi Hiroshima Municipal Hachihonmatsu Junior High School.

Hachihonmatsu Junior High School expanded in 1980. A new wing was added with six classrooms. In 1983 a branch school Miva Junior High School opened.

The school introduced personal computers in 1988. This shows its commitment to modern education.

From 2004 to 2006 the long-distance running team excelled. They won the Chugoku Junior High School Ekiden three years in a row. In 2006 the school added a new east wing. The existing new wing was renamed the west wing.

Earthquake resistance work was carried out from 2007 to 2008. Interior renovations were also done. In 2007 the west wing became the south wing. This change reflected its location within the school.

The school today consists of several buildings. The main building has classrooms and offices. The south wing houses more classrooms. The east wing is for special support classes. There is also a gymnasium and technology rooms.

Hachihonmatsu Junior High School has various clubs. Sports clubs include basketball and tennis. There are also cultural clubs such as guitar and science.
