“Fukuoka City Takeyoshi Junior High School?” I overhear a student ask. Today we will explore this school. It has a story that stretches back through Fukuoka’s rich educational history.

Fukuoka City Takeyoshi Junior High School is more than just classrooms and hallways. It is a place where students learn. It is a part of Fukuoka City. The school’s story is linked to the city’s development.

The school is located in Minami Ward. Another school with a similar name is in Hakata Ward. That school is called Fukuoka Municipal Takeyoshi Junior High School. Its address is 3-22-7 Mikasano.

Fukuoka itself is a city with a long past. People lived here as far back as 30000 years ago. The city’s story began about 2000 years ago. Fukuoka has cultivated culture and traditions.

Around 2500 years ago villages started to form. One was the Itazuke Ruins. Paddy fields developed there. This marked the start of rice growing in Japan.

The Yoshitake-Takagi Ruins are also important. Many bronze items were found there. This shows how metal was used in Japan at that time. The oldest royal tomb in Japan was also found.

In the 1st century Nakoku was a kingdom here. It got a golden seal from China. This shows that people near Fukuoka were involved in international relations.

Later large burial mounds appeared. These tombs showed power. By the Kofun Period local families were buried in these tombs. The Marukuma-yama Tumulus is a large tomb from the 5th century.

In the late 7th century Dazaifu was set up. It was a hub for Kyushu’s government. It was also a gateway for trade with Asia. The Korokan was a diplomatic guesthouse. Artifacts from China Korea and Islamic areas were found there.

From the late Heian period trade with China grew. Hakata became the center of this trade. In the 13th century the Mongol invasions happened. Hakata became the headquarters for the Chinzei Tandai military office.

During the Sengoku Period Hakata was a battleground. After Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s conquest he reorganized the town. In 1600 Kuroda Nagamasa built Fukuoka Castle. The city became a twin city. Fukuoka was the castle town. Hakata was the merchant town.

In 1889 Fukuoka and Hakata became one city. Kyushu Imperial University was established. Hakata Port opened. After World War II the city grew quickly.

Fukuoka City Takeyoshi Junior High School stands as a place of learning. It helps shape the future. It is part of Fukuoka’s history. It is a place where the past meets the future.
