Jinbocho Theater? No, this isn’t Jinbocho Theater. We stand before Hiroshima City Jinbo Junior High School. Established in 1976, Jinbo Junior High School has been a cornerstone of the Minami Ward community for decades. The school’s motto, though not explicitly stated in my research, seems to echo in its vibrant activities. It’s a place where students don’t just learn, they engage. They participate in a multitude of clubs, from the thrill of the hard-court basketball team to the graceful movements of the volleyball club. Budding musicians hone their skills in the brass band club, while others explore their creativity in the art club or express themselves through the school’s broadcast program. Jinbo Junior High hosted the “Kizuna Festival” food drive in early February. Some of the second-year students volunteered, managing food sales and even trying their hand at cooking traditional Japanese sweets. The event was a resounding success, bringing smiles to the faces of community members and a sense of accomplishment to the students. Just last week, the school held a disaster preparedness drill, a stark reminder of the city’s history, but also a testament to its resilience. Students learned how to use everyday benches, cleverly designed to transform into cooking stoves in times of emergency. These benches, crafted by students from Hiroshima Municipal Hiroshima Technical High School, stand as a symbol of ingenuity and community collaboration. Jinbo Junior High also received a beautiful metal folding screen. This screen, a product of the same technical high school, will grace the school’s entrance, a daily reminder of the talented hands that created it.
