“Fancy a quiet escape in Shanghai?” That’s what I thought when I first visited Chuansha Ancient Town. It’s not always easy to find tranquility in this city. But Chuansha offers a serene retreat. This town is the place where Pudong’s history began. It is a gem waiting to be discovered.

Chuansha Ancient Town boasts multiple cultural sites. Neishidi is one of these sites. Also visit the Soong Ching Ling Culture Exhibition Center. The Chuansha Theater Art Exhibition Center is worth a look, too. Each tells a piece of Pudong’s story.

Chuansha Park has been around for over 38 years. The Heming Tower is located here. Climb to the top and enjoy a view of the town. You can even spot Shanghai Disney Resort in the distance.

The old streets in Chuansha Ancient Town have been remodeled. The stone roads are imitations, and they are bumpy. The shops on both sides of the street offer gourmet treats. The architecture of the town reflects the Ming and Qing Dynasties. White walls, tiles, and ancient archways add to the charm.

In the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates repeatedly invaded. The local people built a city wall in just three months. A moat was dug outside the wall. This effectively resisted the pirates.

Religious culture is well-developed in Chuansha. Temples and churches stand side by side. This blend of Chinese and Western cultures is unique. The people here respect culture and education.

Don’t miss the Chuansha Ancient City Wall Park. A well-preserved section of the Ming Dynasty city wall is here. It stretches 60 meters long. The Kui Xing and Yuebei pavilions adorn the southeastern section of the wall.

Chuansha Park’s He Ming Tower is another highlight. It was inspired by an ancient poem. The tower stands 54 meters tall with five towers and seven stories. It resembles the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan.

Once, the Shangchuan Railway ran from Qingning Temple to Chuansha. It was Shanghai’s first commercial light rail. Today, only memories remain.

For a taste of local flavor, visit Daqiao Shushi Shop. It has been a culinary icon for over 35 years. Try their famous chicken feet. They are known throughout Shanghai.

Chuansha Ancient Town may seem unassuming. But its subtle beauty and rich history make it special. Stroll along the old streets. Discover the cultural landmarks. Savor the timeless allure. You will be stepping back in time. This unassuming town provides a great escape.
