Whispers of countless stories echo around us here at the Shanghai Children’s Library. This isn’t just a building. It is a portal to imagination for young minds.

The Shanghai Children’s Library stands as one of China’s oldest provincial-level children’s libraries. Founded in 1941, it has been a haven for young readers. The library operates on the principle of “everything for every child.”

Let’s step inside the Shanghai Children’s Library on West Nanjing Road. The library owns a vast collection of over 960000 books. This includes modern children’s literature and foreign language books. Digital lending services cater to children of all age groups.

Did you know the architecture blends Western and Chinese styles? The lecture hall features intricate Western-style decor. This unique design reflects Shanghai’s diverse cultural influences.

Now I want to share something about the Changfeng Library branch in Putuo district. This branch faces north, looking towards Changfeng Park and Suzhou Creek. Opened in 2022, this modern marvel has four floors. There are 12 service areas and 753 reading seats. It holds nearly 530000 books. The architectural design symbolizes the development of children into teenagers.

Interestingly, the Shanghai Children’s Library uses an integrated library solution. Telelift optimizes book transport, sorting, and return across several floors. Children can even see the UniSortCars moving books when they ride the lift. The library has three book return machines, 34 UniSortCars, and six UniSafeCars.

The Shanghai Children’s Library is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Be aware that on Mondays, the library only receives reading groups in the morning. Normal operations resume in the afternoon.

Since its dual-site operation began two years ago, children and parents from over 40 countries have visited. Readers have checked out more than 9 million books. Over 4.6 million people have participated in nearly 1700 events. Digital resources have been downloaded and viewed 8 million times.

Each floor caters to different age groups and interests. Children can explore various topics and expand their knowledge. The library also hosts themed activities like exhibitions and reading festivals.

The library has developed an extensive reading service system called “Honey Treasure”. It offers online and offline services. These include the Honey Treasure Cloud Study Room and Honey Treasure Book Stations.

Every year, the library highlights the “Read & Encounter” Shanghai Fairy Tale Festival. It features lectures, exhibitions, and art classes. There are also volunteer programs. The Shanghai Children’s Library also collaborates with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s “Wonton Wrapper Family Art Festival”. Science workshops further enrich its offerings.

The Shanghai Children’s Library brings high-quality reading services to the community. Visitors praise its vast collection, comfortable environment, and educational values.

As we leave, remember the Shanghai Children’s Library is more than books. It is a vibrant space where young minds grow, explore, and dream.
