Grief birthed Myojo Temple.

This unassuming Buddhist temple Myojo Kyoe stands before you. It wasn’t always here. Its story begins with Sozan Dainen in 1964. His wife passed away. Their young son died. Overwhelmed by sorrow Sozan found solace in faith. He decided to build a temple. It was a memorial a testament to his loss.

Myojo Kyoe wasn’t built immediately. Sozan was a busy man. He held a high-ranking position within the Daiho sect. He was also involved in local politics. But he never forgot his vow.

Years later Sozan finally resigned from his positions. He dedicated himself to the temple’s construction. The temple’s name Myojo means ‘bright star’ a beacon of hope in his darkness. The construction wasn’t easy. Funds were scarce. Sozan’s son-in-law took over after his death in 1988. He completed the temple ensuring Sozan’s vision lived on.

The temple stands as a poignant reminder. It’s a symbol of faith resilience and the enduring power of love. It’s a place of quiet contemplation. Feel the serenity. Breathe in the peace. Myojo Kyoe is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a story of grief transformed into something beautiful. Something enduring. Something sacred.
