“Built in the Tang Dynasty,” the inscription declares. It marks the start of our visit to Tianguang Temple. Let’s step inside this Shanghai treasure.

Tianguang Temple stands in Qingpu’s Liantang town. It is more than just a building. It is a journey through time. The temple’s history stretches back to the Tang Dynasty. That makes it over a thousand years old.

The temple follows a traditional three-courtyard design. This layout guides visitors deeper into the sacred space. You first pass through the King Hall. Next comes the Main Hall. Finally, you reach the apse. Each hall has its own significance.

The total area covers 6660 square meters. The buildings themselves occupy 885 square meters. The King Hall measures 124 square meters. The Main Hall is slightly larger at 174 square meters. Other rooms account for 267 square meters. Auxiliary spaces take up 320 square meters.

Before the King Hall once stood Shen Chen tablets. These tablets added to the temple’s solemn atmosphere. Today, Tianguang Temple welcomes visitors.

Getting here involves a bit of a journey. You can take a bus from Shanghai Pu’an Road to Qingpu bus station. Then, transfer to a bus to Liantang. From there, a local bus will bring you to Tianguang Temple. A walk is possible, but it’s about a kilometer.

Tianguang Temple reopened in 2000. The restoration breathed new life into the ancient structure. Now, people can once again appreciate its beauty. They can also experience its spiritual significance.

Consider the craftsmanship as you explore Tianguang Temple. Imagine the generations of worshippers who have passed through these halls. Feel the weight of history in the very stones.

Tianguang Temple isn’t just a relic of the past. It is a living part of Shanghai’s cultural heritage. It connects us to a time long ago. It reminds us of the enduring power of faith and tradition. The phone number is 021-59849901 if you need to contact the Temple in advance.
