Tongji University started its Economics and Management programs in 1956. It was among the first in China to do so. The School of Economic Management was founded in 1984. In 1998, it merged with the Business School. This merger formed the School of Economics and Management or SEM.
SEM has a strong international focus. It has more than 25 Double Degree programs. Also, it offers over 70 student exchange programs. Over the past five years, SEM faculty have produced over 3000 publications. These publications are based on CNKI, EI, EBSCO, FT45, UT Dallas 24 and ABS journal lists.
Tongji-SEM has partnerships with over 85 international universities. These partnerships include Case Western Reserve University and Manchester University. Others include Mannheim University, ESSEC Business School, and ESCP Europe. SEM welcomes over 500 international students each year. The school provides a vibrant atmosphere for culture, living and sports.
SEM boasts 210 faculty members. Sixty are professors and 74 are associate professors. Currently, there are over 1500 undergraduates and over 4000 postgraduates. Postgraduates include those in MBA, Public Administration, and Engineering Management. There are also EMBA and doctoral candidates. SEM has cultivated thousands of professional managers over the past 30 years. These managers now contribute significantly to China’s national economy.
