This is the No. 1 High School Affiliated to East China Normal University, or as it’s often called, Huashi Da Yi Fushu Zhongxue. Let’s unravel the story of this remarkable institution. Did you know that Huashi Da Yi Fushu Zhongxue wasn’t always known by its current name? The school’s roots trace back to two separate institutions: Guanghua University High School, established in 1926, and Great China University High School, founded in 1925. These two schools, each with their own unique traditions, merged in 1951. This merger created the High School Affiliated to East China Normal University. Later, with the establishment of a second affiliated high school in 1958, it became the No. 1 High School Affiliated to East China Normal University, solidifying its place in Shanghai’s educational landscape. Huashi Da Yi Fushu Zhongxue has witnessed significant changes throughout the years. It transitioned from a combined junior and senior high school to solely a senior high in 1997. It also experienced a physical move. The original campus was located on Zhongshan Road. Later, in 2005, a new campus in the northern suburbs began operations. The full transition to the new campus at Hong Zhen Old Street, Hongkou district, was completed in 2007. Huashi Da Yi Fushu Zhongxue boasts an impressive alumni network. Among its notable graduates are Zhou Youguang, a renowned linguist, and Qiao Shi, a prominent politician. These individuals, along with many other alumni, have made significant contributions to various fields, reflecting the school’s commitment to nurturing talent.
