Legend tells of Kuroda Nagamasa’s plans to use stones from the temple’s original site for Fukuoka Castle. But in a dream the Goddess Kannon appeared warning him against this. He found a carving of Kannon in one of the stones. He abandoned his plans and instead built a hall of worship on the very spot. This act of respect is quite remarkable showing the power of faith and reverence.
The temple itself was destroyed in 1693. The main hall was then rebuilt by Tandō Chōzen a priest from another temple in Fukuoka. The rebuilding marked a significant turning point in the temple’s history a testament to its enduring legacy.
