These weathered stones whisper secrets. This is the former site of the CCP Central and Central Military Commission Communication Point. Here in the heart of Shanghai a pivotal chapter of modern Chinese history unfolded.

Imagine 1927. The Nationalist forces were in disarray. The CCP Central Committee needed a secure communication hub. This unassuming two-story building became that lifeline. Its location on what was then Aiwen Road offered both secrecy and strategic advantage. It was close to the bustling city yet hidden enough to shield its vital role.

This building served as a clandestine nerve center. From here coded messages zipped across the city and beyond. It was a hive of activity. Couriers hurried in and out. Secret meetings were held behind closed doors. The weight of a nation’s fate rested on the shoulders of those who worked within these walls.

But the shadows of danger lurked nearby. The Kuomintang was relentlessly hunting down Communists. The threat of discovery was ever-present. On April 15 1928 the then-head of the CCP Central Organization Department Li Weihan held a meeting here with Qian Xiping. A traitor betrayed their location. British spies stormed the building. Li Weihan was arrested. This marked a significant blow to the fledgling Communist Party. The incident became a dark chapter in Shanghai’s revolutionary history.

The arrest of Li Weihan shocked the party. News spread like wildfire. Yet from the ashes of this setback the CCP rose stronger. This building although a symbol of defeat also embodied the tenacity of the Communist cause. It served as a potent reminder of the risks taken and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of a new China.

Today as we stand here before this site it’s easy to overlook its profound importance. The building itself is gone but the echo of its history remains. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. A silent tribute to those who risked everything for a belief. Remember this unassuming building and the untold stories it holds. They are woven into the very fabric of this vibrant city. This is the legacy of the CCP Central and Central Military Commission Communication Point.
