Shanghai Open University Songjiang Branch has six teaching points. These are spread throughout the district. There are 16 enrollment points. Also, it has five school-enterprise and school-government cooperation points. Twelve bachelor degree programs are available. Thirteen associate degree programs are available. Nearly 10,000 students are enrolled. It has trained more than 28,000 graduates. Each year, it trains over 10,000 non-degree students. It has modern educational facilities.
Interestingly, Shanghai played a role in underwater archaeology. A shipwreck was found near Shanghai. The ship dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It was from the reign of Emperor Tongzhi 1862-1875. The shipwreck was found at the mouth of the Yangtze River. It sat 5.5 meters below the ocean bed. It was near Hengsha Island in Chongming district.
Archaeologists found the ship in 2015. It was the largest and best-kept shipwreck found in China. It also contained the largest number of cultural relics. The ship was about 38.1 meters long. It was 9.9 meters wide at its broadest point. There were 31 cargo chambers. The main structure was complete. This included the prow, bollard, port side and starboard.
Trial clean-up found piles of ceramic objects. These were made in Jingdezhen. Also found were purple clay objects. There were hookah pots made in Vietnam. Pulleys, cables and construction materials were also discovered. The shipwreck shows Shanghai’s historical role. It was a shipping and trade center for East Asia. The find expanded our understanding of history. It brought historical scenes to life.
