“How many shades of green can you count from here?” I ask. Welcome to ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA’s Gin-nan Observatory. Here nature unfolds before us. The Gin-nan Observatory offers a stunning panoramic view. It is one of the three popular spots in the forest area.
Before us stretches a vista. It includes a large suspension bridge and the Momiji Valley. The Central Observatory is also visible. The Gin-nan Observatory is a perfect spot for bird watching. Especially during the autumn migration season.
ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA results from a merger. The union joined the Aburayama Farm and the Aburayama City Tree Garden. It has been one and a half years since the renewal of ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA.
From the Higashi-ya, the Gin-nan Observatory is a short walk. It is about 10 minutes. As we stroll toward the Gin-nan Observatory, notice the trees around us. You may spot plants and wildlife not seen in the city. However, please remember Fukuoka’s rules. Do not cut flowers or plants. Also do not take fruits from trees. Fallen leaves and seeds are fine to collect.
A little further from Gin-nan Observatory is the Couple Stones Observatory. It is a five-minute walk on a flat path from the Nature Observation Center. Even strollers can be used. Take a break and resume your walk.
To the east of Gin-nan Observatory is a suspension bridge. The bridge spans 52 meters. It hangs 30 meters above the Himega Falls. It is an impressive sight.
Autumn is a great time to visit Momiji Valley. The valley is filled with maple trees. The leaves turn vibrant shades of red. The best time to see the autumn leaves is late October.
Further along the path is the Central Observatory. It stands high on a hill. From there a panoramic view extends over Fukuoka. The view extends from Hakata Bay across the city. The 180-degree view is breathtaking.
Before heading back, consider visiting Mori no Ie. It is near the Mori no Hiroba. Mori no Ie has light meals and a cafe. Rest your tired feet and relax.
