“Abandoned? But I heard laughter just now,” a young hiker whispered, peering at the weathered stone walls of Planinarska kuća “Tuli”. The seasoned guide chuckled. “The mountain holds its secrets close. Let me tell you a tale of Škola Kuna Konavoska, once a schoolhouse, now a mountain hut nestled on the slopes of Sniježnica Konavoska.” He gestured towards the building. “This very spot, perched at 721 meters above sea level, has seen a transformation. Originally a school, it was embraced by the hiking community, the HPD Dubrovnik, who saw its potential as a refuge for weary travelers.” The guide paused, letting his words sink in. “Škola Kuna Konavoska offered a haven, a place to rest and recharge amidst the rugged beauty of the Konavle region. It held the promise of camaraderie, shared meals, and stories whispered around a crackling fire. But, as with many mountain tales, there’s a twist. Legal disputes arose, a cloud of contention settled over the hut, and it fell into disrepair. Now, abandoned and forlorn, it stands as a silent testament to both the generosity and the conflicts that shape our human experience.” He walked closer, running a hand along a crumbling wall. “Imagine, though, a time when this place was alive. Hikers gathered here, exchanging tales of their journeys, their boots caked with the mud of the trails. The air would have been thick with the aroma of hearty stews and the sound of laughter echoing through the mountain air.” He pointed down the slope. “The road from Pridvorje winds its way up here, once carrying supplies, now leading only to a memory.” He sighed. “Alas, Škola Kuna Konavoska stands empty, a poignant reminder of what was. No longer does it provide shelter, no longer do the lights flicker within its walls. Its story, however, continues to resonate, whispered by the winds that sweep across these mountain slopes.”
