In 1998, construction began on a unique sanctuary. This sanctuary would become known as Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório, or St. Joseph the Worker Church. Now, as you stand before Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório, imagine its rapid rise to completion just a year later in 1999. This modern church, nestled in the Freguesia of Our Lady of Fatima in the Iao Hon district of Macau, stands as a testament to faith and community. Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório serves as the main church for this neighborhood. The parish was entrusted to the Combonian fathers by Bishop Domingos Lam Ka-tseung in 1999, the same year the building was finished. Inside Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório, fourteen oriental icons depict key events in Christianity, from Abraham’s journey to the day of Pentecost. These visual narratives offer a unique perspective on familiar stories. At the heart of Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório, on the main altar, a statue of the Holy Family provides a focal point for prayer and reflection. This depiction of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus emphasizes the church’s dedication to family and community values. Igreja de S. José Operário Cartório isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub for the local community, a place where faith and daily life intertwine.
