Hidden amidst the vibrant tapestry of São Paulo, the Paróquia Verbo Encarnado whispers tales of faith and dedication. The Paróquia Verbo Encarnado isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of belief. It stands as a beacon of hope in the bustling Vila Guacuri neighborhood, bordering Diadema.
The story of Paróquia Verbo Encarnado begins on December 3, 1994. Bishop Dom Fernando Antônio Figueiredo oversaw its establishment. The church became the first in Brazil for the Instituto Verbo Encarnado (IVE). This missionary order infused the parish with its unique spirit. Nossa Senhora Aparecida holds a special place here, serving as the co-patron saint. She’s also the patron saint of the IVE province in Brazil. This connection adds a layer of historical significance to the Paróquia Verbo Encarnado.
Originally, this sacred ground housed a humble chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora Aparecida. It was part of the larger Santa Terezinha Parish. The transformation into the Paróquia Verbo Encarnado marked a new chapter. The IVE’s influence extended beyond the main church. They nurtured three chapels: São José in Jardim Monte Líbano, Santa Luzia in Jardim Santa Lúcia, and Santa Gianna in Jardim Mata Virgem. Additionally, they guided the Oratório São João Paulo II in Jardim Rubilene. The Oratório has a fascinating past. It once served as a religious house, hosting the IVE’s novitiate and seminaries. Some of Brazil’s current IVE priests began their journeys right here.
Over the years, Paróquia Verbo Encarnado has been shepherded by numerous dedicated priests. Father Guillermo Roque Albarracin was the first, leading the fledgling parish after its founding. Father Fernando Sosa served a remarkable seven years before leaving to establish his own social assistance project and congregation. Father José Dominguez followed, bridging the gap until Father Vagner’s arrival. Father Marcos da Silva served twice, eventually embarking on a mission to Peru after time in Russia. Father Maciel José oversaw the Lar de Caridade São Luis Orione, which occupied the space now held by the Oratório. Today, Father Andres Furlan from Argentina, former rector of the Seminário Menor São Tarcisio, guides the Paróquia Verbo Encarnado. He’s assisted by Father Jaime Villavicencio from Ecuador, ordained in Rome.
Paróquia Verbo Encarnado celebrates its patron saint, the Verbo Encarnado (Incarnate Word), on March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation. The feast of Nossa Senhora Aparecida is celebrated on October 12th. The Paróquia Verbo Encarnado stands not just as a place of worship, but as a testament to two decades of faith. It is a symbol of growth, transformation, and unwavering devotion within the heart of São Paulo.
