The scent of popcorn and cotton candy hangs heavy in the air. A symphony of screams and laughter fills the space. Welcome to Parque de Diversões Marisa. This isn’t just any amusement park. It’s a São Paulo landmark a place steeped in history and brimming with unexpected stories.
Parque de Diversões Marisa opened in 1973. It wasn’t always the large park we see today. It started as a humble traveling amusement park with only two rides. Miguel Cerretti a 20-year-old entrepreneur had a dream. His dream was to bring joy to the people of São Paulo. He spent 14 years moving his small park from place to place staying for 30 days in each location.
Competition with other parks like the legendary Playcenter was tough. Cerretti had to adapt. He decided to make Itaquera his permanent home in 1987. This decision was a turning point. It allowed him to expand his park greatly. The constant moving was no longer profitable. The cost of transporting and maintaining the rides was too high.
The name Marisa itself holds a touching tale. It was chosen in honor of a daughter Miguel and his wife expected but never had. They had planned to name her Marisa. Instead they welcomed sons. The name remains a poignant reminder of hopes and dreams.
Parque de Diversões Marisa has faced challenges. In 2008 a tragic accident occurred. A 10-year-old boy fell from a ride. Investigations revealed maintenance issues. Cerretti although cleared of wrongdoing paid a hefty settlement to the boy’s family.
Today Parque de Diversões Marisa thrives. It operates on weekends and holidays from 3 pm to 11 pm. Entry is free. Each ride costs just R$7. Nineteen attractions cater to both children and adults. There are also classic games such as ring toss and fishing. Plenty of snack bars provide refreshments.
More than just rides and games Marisa offers a nostalgic trip to the past. It’s a testament to resilience and the enduring power of simple pleasures. It’s a reminder of the joy of a family day out. It’s a place where generations of São Paulo residents have created lasting memories. This is Parque de Diversões Marisa a true São Paulo institution.
