In 1970, a seed of faith was planted in Dallas, Texas. This seed blossomed into Beginners Baptist Church. The church’s first home was at 3800 Dixon at Bourquin. Pastor L. B. Bartley Sr. led the congregation. The members were active in the community. They visited homes, shared their faith, and offered prayers. The church grew quickly. Choirs sang, ushers welcomed, and deacons served. The church family expanded to include deaconesses, a brotherhood, youth groups, and a missionary society. Soon, the small space at 3800 Dixon was overflowing. In 1973, Beginners Baptist Church found a new home at 3726 Hancock Street. This building started as a duplex. The church occupied one side. As the congregation continued to grow, the church expanded into the entire building. This provided a larger sanctuary, a pastor’s study, and a classroom. The church even purchased a van. Membership swelled to over 150 people. They prayed for an even larger space. In 1983, Reverend Kenneth D. Pace joined Beginners Baptist Church as an associate minister. He came from True Lee Missionary Baptist Church. Sadly, in July 1983, Pastor Bartley passed away. Reverend Pace became the new pastor in September 1983. Under Pastor Pace’s leadership, the church continued to thrive. Membership grew to over 300. Beginners Baptist Church also began supporting the Bethlehem Foundation. They donated their Second Sunday offerings to this cause. Pastor Pace guided the church in purchasing seven lots in the community. This would be the site of their future home. In September 1995, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at 3610 Hancock Street. On October 6, 1996, the new Beginners Baptist Church was dedicated. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the occasion. A parade started at the old location and ended at the new church. Three services were held that day to celebrate. In the first year at the new location, over 70 people joined the church. Beginners Baptist Church’s motto is “Come Grow With Us.” This is based on II Peter 3:18. Today, Beginners Baptist Church continues its mission of faith and community service under Dr. Kenneth D. Pace’s leadership.
