From a simple gathering in a Catholic home, the Christuskirche Hangelar emerged. In 1947, around 60 Protestants living in the St. Monika-Heim, found solace in their faith. They were led by Pastor Albrecht Ufer from Siegburg. They held regular services, shared communion, and read daily devotions, nurturing the seeds of a future community. This burgeoning community, seeking a spiritual home, voted in 1951 to affiliate with the Siegburg congregation. Their first official service, held at Saale Hoffstadt, resonated with the joyous sounds of the Siegburg Posaunenchor. The Protestant community continued to expand in the post-war years, fueled by population shifts and the development around Bonn. This growth led to the establishment of a new parish in St. Augustin in 1957. The first confirmation ceremony took place shortly after, marking a significant milestone. The Christuskirche Hangelar’s journey started with the purchase of land in 1960. The Melanchthonhaus, completed in 1963, served as an initial community center. Hangelar’s congregation officially formed in 1964, marking a key moment in the church’s history. Continued expansion led to the building of a new community center in 1983. The Christuskirche Hangelar, as we know it today, was finally inaugurated on March 25, 1984. A cornerstone was laid, containing a message of peace and hope. In 2021, the congregations of Hangelar and St. Augustin reunited, creating the “Evangelische Kirchengemeinde St. Augustin und Hangelar.” This merger combined tradition with fresh perspectives, further enriching the vibrant tapestry of the Christuskirche Hangelar.
