SAFTI Military Institute

Gazing up at the SAFTI Military Institute, one might wonder about the stories held within its walls. The SAFTI Military Institute isn’t just a cluster of buildings. It’s a symbol of Singapore’s dedication to defense and the heart of its military training. Officially opened on August 25, 1995, by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, the institute sits on a sprawling 88-hectare campus in Jurong West. The SAFTI Military Institute plays a crucial role in shaping the future leaders of the Singapore Armed Forces. This includes officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. All begin their journeys at the Officer Cadet School (OCS) located within the institute. Their training continues at the SAF Advanced Schools and culminates at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College (GKSCSC). The Institute is more than just classrooms and training grounds. It’s a place where individuals are transformed. They enter as cadets and emerge as capable officers, ready to lead and protect their nation. The design of the SAFTI Military Institute is filled with symbolism. The OCS, nestled at the base of a hill, represents the birthplace of officers. As officers progress in their careers, their training moves up the hill. The SAF Advanced Schools are situated mid-slope, while the GKSCSC sits at the summit, signifying the peak of military leadership. A striking feature of the institute is the Tower, a three-sided structure standing tall at approximately 60 meters. This symbolizes the four branches of the SAF. Inside, a stairway winds upwards, connecting the three sides. A lift is available, but the 265-step stairway holds symbolic weight. It represents the number of days a cadet undergoes rigorous training to become a commissioned officer. The SAFTI Military Institute isn’t just a training ground.
