Nestled in the heart of Ang Mo Kio, Masjid Al-Muttaqin stands as a testament to community spirit and devotion. Masjid Al-Muttaqin isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub woven into the fabric of this community. Masjid Al-Muttaqin’s story begins in the late 1970s. Before its construction, the Muslim residents of Ang Mo Kio had to travel to mosques in other areas. They yearned for a local place of worship, a spiritual home in their own neighborhood. Driven by this shared dream, the community rallied together. They formed committees, organized fundraisers, and tirelessly sought donations. Their efforts culminated in the groundbreaking ceremony in 1979, led by Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff. The mosque officially opened its doors on September 21, 1980. Haji Rahmat bin Kenap, a former Member of Parliament, led the inauguration ceremony. The name “Al-Muttaqin” translates to “those who practice taqwa,” referring to the pious and God-conscious. This name perfectly embodies the spirit of the community that built it. Masjid Al-Muttaqin quickly became a central part of Ang Mo Kio. It has a capacity of 3,500 worshippers. In 1987, a new floor was added to house kindergarten classes. A third level followed in 1998, along with renovations. More recently, the mosque underwent further upgrades in 2017. Today, Masjid Al-Muttaqin continues to thrive, serving not only as a place of prayer, but also as a center for learning and community events. It offers part-time religious classes, kindergarten programs, and structured Quran learning. It stands as a symbol of their dedication and a beacon of faith in Ang Mo Kio.
