Mount Albert grew. A railway station opened in 1880 connecting it to Auckland. People flocked here families seeking homes outside the city’s bustle. A quarry was established on the mountain itself. The early 20th century saw Mount Albert flourish. It became its own borough in 1911 then a city in 1978.
