River Wonders, formerly known as River Safari, opened its doors in stages. The Giant Panda Forest debuted in 2012. A soft opening for the entire park followed in 2013. The grand, official opening was celebrated in February 2014. River Wonders sprawls across 12 hectares. It’s nestled between the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. Imagine yourself drifting down the Mekong. At River Wonders, you can witness the magnificent Mekong giant catfish. Marvel at the giant freshwater stingray. These gentle giants glide through the waters. The vibrant painted storks add a splash of color. River Wonders is also home to the adorable red pandas. Visit Kai Kai and Jia Jia in the Pavilion Capital Giant Panda Forest. This climate-controlled enclosure mimics their natural habitat. Did you know River Wonders grows its own bamboo? A vast 8,000-square-meter plantation provides a feast for the pandas. In 2021, Kai Kai and Jia Jia welcomed a cub. Le Le, the first panda cub born in Singapore. Sadly, Le Le returned to China in early 2024. Embark on the Amazon River Quest boat ride. Keep an eye out for playful monkeys, giant anteaters, and sleek jaguars. The Amazon Flooded Forest is another must-see. Explore the underwater viewing tunnel. Watch giant otters frolic and electric eels pulse with energy. River Wonders achieved a remarkable feat. They successfully bred manatees. In 2016, two young manatees, Junior and Kai, embarked on a journey. They were released into a protected bay in Guadeloupe. This was part of an international breeding program. Tragically, Junior passed away shortly after from renal failure. River Wonders offers more than just animal encounters. The park’s tropical rainforest setting creates an immersive experience. From the River of Africa to the Ganges River, each exhibit tells a story. At River Wonders, every twist and turn reveals a new aquatic wonder. It’s a world where rivers come to life.
