Envision a building veiled in shimmering, golden curtains. This is the Fosun Foundation. It’s no ordinary structure. The Fosun Foundation is a place where art, architecture, and culture intertwine. The Fosun Foundation sits within Shanghai’s Bund Finance Center. It officially opened its doors in 2017. The building itself is a work of art, designed by the renowned firms Foster + Partners and Heatherwick Studio. The Fosun Foundation is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a vibrant hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange. The foundation hosts a diverse range of events. These include fashion shows, art exhibitions, and conferences. The building’s unique exterior is inspired by traditional Chinese theatre curtains. Three layers of bronze-colored stainless steel pipes hang from the third floor. These “curtains” slowly rotate around the building throughout the day, creating a dynamic and mesmerizing spectacle. The movement is even synchronized to music, adding another layer to the artistic experience. Inside, the Fosun Foundation boasts multiple levels of gallery space. The first floor welcomes visitors with a spacious lobby, atrium, and a cozy cafe. The second and third floors offer even more room for exhibitions. They have high ceilings, creating an airy and open atmosphere. And if you ascend to the fourth floor rooftop, you’ll discover the “Counter Sky Garden.” This permanent art installation by Tatsuo Miyajima features 300 LED lights. These lights count down from nine to one at varying speeds, symbolizing the diversity of human life. The Fosun Foundation also houses a unique gift shop. You can find souvenirs like building block toys that replicate the foundation’s design, mugs designed by the building’s architect, and colorful fridge stickers inspired by the artwork displayed within. After exploring the exhibitions, you can relax at CLOUD Bistro on the fourth floor. Enjoy a meal or a drink while taking in the panoramic view of the Huangpu River.
