What if you could board a lightcycle and race through a digital world? Here at Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run, you can experience just that. TRON Lightcycle Power Run opened in 2016, bringing the high-speed thrills of the Grid to life. This isn’t just a roller coaster. It’s a journey into the digital frontier, inspired by the TRON films, especially TRON: Legacy. TRON Lightcycle Power Run catapults you to nearly 60 mph, making it one of the fastest coasters in any Disney park.

The story of TRON Lightcycle Power Run picks up after TRON: Legacy. Sam Flynn and Quorra are creating gateways between the digital world and our own. You’re joining Team Blue, racing against the villainous Team Orange. The queue itself is an experience. You’ll walk through corridors pulsing with blue circuitry, then enter a preshow room. A video plays, digitizing you and revealing the launch ahead. You’ll see leaderboards for the different teams, including your own Team Blue. Lockers are provided for loose items before you board your lightcycle.

The lightcycles are designed like the ones in the film. You lean forward, grip the handlebars, and a pad secures you. A voice counts down, “3, 2, 1, Launch!” You burst out of the building, under a color-shifting canopy. This is where the on-ride photo captures your digitized self in action. Back inside, you twist and turn through the Grid, passing other lightcycles and energy gates. The ride is a symphony of lights, projections, and sound effects, creating a truly immersive experience. It culminates in a thrilling race, mirroring the high-stakes competition of the TRON world. Though the ride is short, the visual and sensory intensity leaves a lasting impression. As you disembark and retrieve your belongings, you’ll exit under the same mesmerizing canopy, a reminder of your journey through the Grid. At the Magic Kingdom version, there’s a special area for “Team Green,” a nod to the ride’s sponsor, Enterprise. TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland is a must-do for thrill-seekers and TRON fans.
