Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history. It all began in 1898. Reverend J. A. James and eight devoted followers founded it. They laid the foundation for a spiritual home that would last generations.

In its 125th year, Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church celebrated its quasquicentennial jubilee. The public was invited to join the congregation. It was a special two-day event held on September 2nd and 3rd in 2023.

The celebration included a community day. It also had a homecoming. The events featured vendors and public service agencies. Non-profits also participated. Guests enjoyed free hotdogs, burgers, and grilled chicken. Work Source-Coastal Georgia, the Economic Opportunity Authority and YMCA/Healthy Savannah were among the agencies present.

The celebration culminated with a special worship service on September 3rd. Reverend Dr. Bobby W. Jones served as the guest messenger. He is the pastor of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church. His officers, choir, and members accompanied him. Sons of Saint Paul Reverend Sam Kenty and Reverend Larry Duncan participated. Dr. Marguerite Tiggs Birt and Brother Elijah West Jr. also joined. Sister Phyllis Garrison led the worship. She is Ruth Chapter #003 of the Order of Eastern Star Inc.’s Worthy Matron of the Year.

A similar celebration marked the church’s 126th anniversary. It was held on August 31st and September 1st in 2024. Pastor Ronald Greene of Victory Bible Fellowship delivered a special worship service. The Savannah State University Wesleyan Gospel Choir performed. Alumni, current students, staff, and reunion members were encouraged to wear their university colors. The late minister of music Eugene Hagins Jr. was honored. He was an organizer and advisor for the choir.

These celebrations reflect the vibrant community. They highlight the enduring legacy of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. The church continues to serve as a spiritual anchor. It is a place of gathering and service for its members and the wider community.
