Have you ever wondered what it took to build a lasting legacy? Here at First Tabernacle Baptist Church, those very foundations were laid long ago. First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church was officially organized on October 16, 1898. Its first pastor was Reverend J. C. Urby. The church’s journey began humbly on Walker Street, in a neighborhood known as Frog Town. First Tabernacle Baptist Church didn’t stay in Frog Town for long. In 1903, the growing congregation moved to Huntington Street. This was just a stepping stone. Their final destination, 310 Alice Street, became their home in 1914. It’s the very place where we stand today. The current building wasn’t built overnight. In 1913, Sister Susan Exley laid the first brick. The construction process culminated in 1917 with the completion of the magnificent structure we see now. First Tabernacle Baptist Church has always been a place of welcome. The church doors are open to everyone, regardless of their background. Today, the church continues to thrive. Modern services last about an hour and 45 minutes. They offer programs for all ages. From children and teens to adults, there’s a place for everyone within these historic walls. First Tabernacle Baptist Church stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and community.
