Ready to experience one of the oldest tourist railways in Brazil? The Corcovado Train awaits. It is more than just a ride. It’s a journey through history.

The Corcovado Train began operations in 1884. Emperor Dom Pedro II inaugurated it. He wanted to make Corcovado Mountain accessible. The railway travels between Cosme Velho and the mountain summit.

Initially, steam engines powered the Corcovado Train. But in 1910, it became Brazil’s first electrified railway. It uses a rare three-phase electric power system. This system employs two overhead wires for traction.

The Corcovado Train utilizes the Riggenbach rack system. Swiss engineer Niklaus Riggenbach invented it. This system allows trains to climb steep grades. Some sections reach a 30% incline.

In 2019, the Corcovado Train received modern upgrades. Stadler Rail of Switzerland manufactured new railcars. These reduced travel time from 25 to 15 minutes. The charm of the historic journey remained.

The Corcovado Train covers 3.82 kilometers. It starts at 40 meters above sea level. It ascends to 710 meters. The ride offers views of the Tijuca Forest.

Emperor Dom Pedro II ordered the Tijuca Forest reforested. It transformed farmland into a lush urban rainforest. It covers 32 square kilometers.

The Christ the Redeemer statue increased ridership in the 1930s. The statue stands 30 meters tall. Its arms stretch 28 meters wide. It symbolizes peace and unity.

The Corcovado Train has transported many famous people. Albert Einstein, Pope John Paul II and Princess Diana rode it. Over 600000 people ride the Corcovado Train annually.

The Corcovado Train offers an unforgettable experience. It combines history, engineering and natural beauty. The railway offers a unique passage through time.
