Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj wished to save the building where he and other leading citizens went to school.

The State Government formed a committee. They aimed to establish a museum and art gallery. Despite obstacles the Penang State Museum and Art Gallery was officially established. Raja Tun Uda Al-Haj Bin Raja Muhammad the Governor of Penang officially opened it.
