“The bay of heat.” Does that sound inviting? That is what Teluk Bahang means in Malay. Welcome to Teluk Bahang a suburb of George Town in Penang. It’s a place where fishing village charm meets tourist destination allure.

Let’s dive into the story of Teluk Bahang. Once a simple agricultural village. Fishing was the livelihood for its residents. Over time Teluk Bahang transformed into a vibrant tourist spot.

Tragedy struck in 2004 when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit. Teluk Bahang was among the hardest-hit areas. Today a network of tsunami warning systems protects Penang including Teluk Bahang.

The Teluk Bahang Forest Eco Park established in 1974. It offers picnic spots camping grounds waterfalls and a forestry museum.

For adventure ESCAPE Adventure Play is the place to be. Opened in 2012 it is an eco-themed amusement park. Visitors can enjoy climbing and rope courses. ESCAPE Water Play launched in 2017. It features aquatic attractions and swimming pools.

Completed in 1999 the Teluk Bahang Dam is George Town’s largest reservoir. It can store 18.24 billion litres of water. It is the only dam in Malaysia built close to the sea. The Penang International Dragon Boat Festival takes place at the dam every year. Teams from around the world compete in this exciting race.
