The Tropical Spice Garden was once a forgotten rubber plantation. Now, it flourishes with over 500 varieties of exotic plants. It sprawls across eight acres of rejuvenated secondary jungle, facing the Straits of Malacca. The transformation from abandoned plantation to vibrant garden took 18 months. The designers faced a significant challenge. They had to harmonize the diverse flora with the natural landscape. They preserved much of the original vegetation. Existing rubber trees were kept, providing shade for visitors and shelter for the garden’s smaller inhabitants. Water is a key element of the Tropical Spice Garden’s design. A nearby waterfall was ingeniously rerouted through man-made canals, culminating in a tranquil pond near the entrance. The gentle gurgle of water adds to the serene atmosphere. The Tropical Spice Garden showcases the plants and spices that have shaped our world. They’ve been our medicines, our flavors, and our companions. The garden aims to bridge the past and the future.
