The \u0412. \u0413. \u0417\u0430\u0445\u0430\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0443 Plaque commemorates Vladimir Grigoryevich Zakharov. He was not just a military leader. He was a composer and musical force. He earned the title of People’s Artist of the USSR.
Vladimir Zakharov significantly contributed during the Great Patriotic War. He helped plan and execute offensive operations. Zakharov twice received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Zakharov was born in 1901 in a mining settlement near Bogodukhov. He joined the Communist Party in 1944. In 1927 he graduated from the Don Conservatory. He studied composition there. From 1930 to 1933 Zakharov worked at the Moscow Radio.
From 1941 to 1945 Zakharov led the staffs of five fronts. He participated in preparing twenty offensive operations. From 1948 he served as secretary. He was also a member of the board of the USSR Composers Union.
From 1932 to 1956 Zakharov was the musical director of the Russian Folk Choir. Zakharov created his own style of song. His style blended folk elements with contemporary themes. Most of Zakharov’s songs were written with lyrics by M.V. Isakovsky and A.T. Tvardovsky. His songs ranged from heroic to lyrical.
Zakharov composed over 11 songs. These songs are from Tvardovsky’s poem “Country of Muravia”. Some notable songs by Zakharov include “Green Spaces” and “Long Ago”. He also wrote “Oh My Mists” and “White Snow”. Other songs include “Good are the July Nights”, “Russian Beauty”, and “Glory to the Soviet Power”.
Zakharov died in Moscow in 1956. The \u0412. \u0413. \u0417\u0430\u0445\u0430\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0443 Plaque on Tverskaya Street honors his memory. The plaque is on building number 8.
With Vladimir Zakharov are buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. His relatives include Grigory Vladimirovich Zakharov and Maria Ilyinichna Podlatova. Podlatova was a singer and soloist of the Pyatnitsky Choir.
