Have you ever heard of Lake Lucy? It’s a beautiful lake in Carver County, Minnesota, and it has a fascinating history. The lake was named after the wife of Burritt S. Judd, an early settler. The lake is the headwaters of Riley Creek. It flows out of Lake Lucy to Lake Ann and then continues south to the Minnesota River, passing through Susan, Rice Marsh, and Riley lakes. The lake is 88 acres and has an average depth of 6.5 feet. The deepest part of Lake Lucy reaches 20 feet. Although the waters are lovely, Lake Lucy is classified by the MPCA as impaired waters due to mercury in the fish tissue. But don’t worry, the lake is still a great place for recreation! You can enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing, but make sure to keep an eye on the fish you catch. The lake is also home to a variety of invasive species, such as Eurasian watermilfoil, curlyleaf pondweed, common carp, and purple loosestrife. These plants and animals can disrupt the delicate ecosystem of the lake. But even with these challenges, Lake Lucy remains a beautiful and valuable natural resource.
