Were you aware that the İletişim Fakültesi isn’t just a building? It’s a living, breathing testament to the power of communication. The İletişim Fakültesi, or Faculty of Communication, at Akdeniz University, was officially established on August 12, 1998. It sprang to life from a decision of the Council of Ministers, decree number 98/11614. This decree amended the law numbered 2809 from March 28, 1983. Imagine the buzz as the first students walked through its doors in the 2000-2001 academic year for the Public Relations and Publicity program. The faculty’s founding dean, Professor Dr. Hikmet, laid the foundation for what the İletişim Fakültesi is today. The İletişim Fakültesi didn’t stop there. It expanded its offerings, adding Radio, Television, and Cinema in 2007. Then, Journalism followed in 2008 and Advertising in 2019. Now, thousands of students pursue undergraduate degrees in these dynamic fields. The faculty’s dedication to practical learning is evident in its various workshops and media outlets. It’s home to a university FM radio station and the İletişim Newspaper, both launched in 2000. These were followed by the AKIL News Agency, AKÜN TV, Atölye Public Relations, and the AİFA Film Workshop. Students hone their skills in these real-world environments, contributing to the vibrant media landscape. These outlets operate under the umbrella of the Akdeniz University Communication Research and Application Center (AKIAUM), established in 2005. The İletişim Fakültesi is more than just classrooms and studios. It’s a hub of innovation and intellectual exchange, producing the Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication Journal since 2003. This peer-reviewed journal, indexed in ULAKBİM, showcases cutting-edge research in communication and media studies. The faculty also hosts numerous scientific events, including the International Media Studies Symposium (IMS). This commitment to research and knowledge sharing solidifies its role as a leading institution in the field. The İletişim Fakültesi has come a long way since its inception. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a respected institution, it continues to shape the future of communication in Turkey and beyond. The faculty embraces the philosophy that creativity and communication are intertwined, striving to elevate education, research, and creative activities to the highest levels. It aims to serve both the industry and society by incorporating cutting-edge teaching methods and technology. As you stand before the İletişim Fakültesi, remember that it’s not just a building. It’s a testament to the ongoing evolution and importance of communication in our world.
