Behold the Nuevo Símbolo Universitario Mural. Its vibrant colors seem to pulse with life.
This isn’t just a painting. This is a statement. Created by the renowned David Alfaro Siqueiros between 1952 and 1956 it’s one of three murals adorning the Torre de Rectoría at the UNAM. Siqueiros’s signature diagonal strokes give a powerful feeling of freedom and expansiveness. The mural is on the east side of the tower overlooking the central campus. It’s painted on a unique “vierendel” a space without a wall just windows.
The central image is breathtaking. An eagle and a condor intertwine their forms. These aren’t just birds. They’re symbols.
