Standing before you is Melba College, a beacon of knowledge and opportunity in the heart of Croydon, Victoria. It’s not just a school, but a testament to the merging of two historic educational institutions, a reminder of Nellie Melba’s incredible legacy, and a testament to the power of education to propel students forward. Melba College represents a new era of learning, one that embraces challenges and empowers students to reach their full potential.

This grand building, built on the foundation of the former Maroondah Secondary College, has a rich history. In 2009, a bold proposal was made to merge this school with Croydon Secondary College. This decision wasn’t without its opposition, but the desire to create a stronger educational facility for the region prevailed. The two schools ceased operations as independent entities, and a new name was needed for this innovative endeavor.

The school opened its doors in 2012 under the temporary name Croydon Maroondah Secondary College. But its creators knew that a more fitting name was needed. The school was officially rebranded as Melba Secondary College in 2013 in honor of the legendary Australian opera singer, Nellie Melba. This name resonated with the community and became synonymous with the school’s commitment to excellence and artistic expression.

The construction of these modern learning spaces was a long-awaited dream. In 2015, the Victorian government pledged $18.4 million for a major renovation of the school. This investment led to an inspiring transformation of the campus, culminating in the completion of Stage 1 in 2018. The once two-campus school was now unified at the Brentnall Road location, a testament to the vision of the community and the dedication of the Melba College team.

The school’s dedication to nurturing growth extends far beyond classrooms. Melba College is proud to offer various sports like basketball, football, netball, and swimming. Students have the opportunity to excel in performing arts, music, and visual arts, participating in both local and state competitions, showcasing their talents to a wider community. This commitment to a diverse and vibrant extracurricular program reflects the school’s dedication to igniting a spark of passion in its students.

Melba College is a place where students not only acquire knowledge but also discover their talents, build their confidence, and connect with a supportive community. This is more than just a school, it’s a place where dreams take flight and futures are shaped.
