Deep in the heart of Turkey’s Taurus Mountains, where eagles soar above rugged peaks, you’ll find the ruins of Termessos. Here, nestled amongst the ancient stones, stands the Termessos – Artemis Temple. This temple, dedicated to the Greek Goddess Artemis and the Roman Emperor Hadrian, greets you with a sense of awe and mystery. The Termessos – Artemis Temple, sadly, lies mostly in ruins. Only the grand entrance gate, the propylon, still stands tall. It hints at the former glory of this once magnificent structure. Imagine the temple in its prime: a testament to the power and artistry of its builders. The Termessos – Artemis Temple wasn’t the only place of worship in this ancient city. Further up the mountain, you’d discover a complex of five more temples, each dedicated to different deities. One, the largest in Termessos, also honored Artemis. It seems the Goddess of the Hunt held a special place in the hearts of the Termessians. Though much of the Termessos – Artemis Temple has been lost to time, its crumbling walls still whisper stories of ancient rituals and beliefs. Standing here, you can almost hear the echoes of bygone eras, a reminder of the enduring power of the past.
