In 1996, at the intersection of EDSA and Timog Avenue, the GMA Network Center began to rise. This modern marvel, completed in 2000 at a cost of US$46 million, became the beating heart of GMA Network. The GMA Network Center stands as a testament to the network’s 50 golden years. Its inauguration on June 14, 2000, GMA Network’s birthdate, marked not just a new building but a new era. The 17-story high-rise isn’t just a pretty face. Inside, the GMA Network Center hums with activity. The newsroom of GMA Integrated News and GMA News Online occupies the second floor. The building also houses production and staff offices for GMA Integrated News, GMA Public Affairs, GMA Entertainment Group, GMA Regional TV, and GMA International. Even Sparkle GMA Artist Center, the network’s talent development arm, finds its home within these walls. The GMA Network Center isn’t alone. It’s part of a larger complex, a 17,184-square-meter plot that has been the network’s home since 1957. The complex includes the GMA Network Studio Annex, a four-story building opened in 2008. This annex, a billion-peso investment, provides two state-of-the-art HD studios, office spaces, and essential studio support facilities. The GMA Network Center is more than just offices and studios. It houses five studios in total, three within the main building (Studios 2, 3, and 5) and two in the annex (German Moreno Studio and Studio 7). Studio 2, renovated in 2022, boasts cutting-edge technology from Vizrt and Red Spy, with dazzling LED video walls and color-changing panels. Studio 3, home to the long-running “Unang Hirit,” received its own modern makeover in 2023, complete with a rotating platform. And Studio 5, the GMA Integrated News Headquarters, stands as a testament to broadcast innovation with its augmented reality technology and immersive graphics. The GMA Network Complex has been the network’s headquarters since its early days as Republic Broadcasting System. From its humble beginnings in the Calvo Building in Manila, GMA has grown to encompass this sprawling complex, a symbol of its enduring presence in Philippine media. Even the front of the Network Center boasts a piece of art, the “Beyond Broadcasting” sculpture by Eduardo Castrillo. In 2014, GMA Network added another layer to its history with the Kapuso Walk of Fame, honoring over 196 personalities. This walkway, inspired by the late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, mirrors the Eastwood City Walk of Fame and celebrates the many faces that have contributed to GMA’s legacy. The GMA Network Center continues to evolve. With plans for a new building and state-of-the-art studios on the horizon, the future of GMA Network looks as bright as its past.
