The Antalya Toy Museum opened its doors on April 23, 2011. The Antalya Toy Museum is located in Kaleiçi. It invites you to explore a world of play. The museum is the third of its kind in Turkey, after Istanbul and İzmir.
Sunay Akın, a writer, poet and researcher, spearheaded this cultural project. He is also the founder of Istanbul Toy Museum. He helped create a space where childhood memories come to life.
Inside the Antalya Toy Museum, nearly 3,000 antique toys from 1860 to 1980 are displayed. These toys include examples from the Industrial Revolution. You’ll see rare dollhouses. The museum showcases toys made both locally and abroad.
As you enter the Antalya Toy Museum, a paper ship greets you. This ship symbolizes the museum. It represents the arrival of culture and civilization by sea.
The museum’s design was created by stage designer Ayhan Doğan. Beloved cartoon characters accompany you throughout your visit to the Antalya Toy Museum. Micky Mouse, Red Kit, and the Smurfs are among them. Keloğlan, Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, and Nasreddin Hodja are also present.
The Antalya Toy Museum features toys from different periods. There are Ottoman-era toys that reflect the art of that time. You can see toys from the early Turkish Republic. European and American toys from the 19th and 20th centuries are also showcased. Traditional Asian toys from Japan and China offer a glimpse into different cultures.
Fairy tale characters like Snow White and Pinocchio are present. You can also find cartoon figures like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny at the Antalya Toy Museum. Antique porcelain and fabric dolls display the fashion of their eras. Various plush toys, including teddy bears, add to the charm.
Saliha Özdemir İpek is the Museum Manager. She noted the museum attracts visitors of all ages. Many tourists visit the Antalya Toy Museum. Adults come to see toys from their childhood. Children enjoy the workshops offered. These workshops allow families to spend time together.
Sunay Akın once said that opening the Antalya Toy Museum in Antalya was fitting. He called Antalya the city of Santa Claus.
